Huess
After years of wandering, encompassing the Scottish tundra and Australian outback, Huess settled in the West Country in mid-2007. His early musical direction veered wildly between flatpick guitar musings, Detroit techno and ridiculous rap alter-ego Breakmaster B*tch. Accidentally acquiring a late night DJ slot on local radio in West Yorkshire enabled him to put together experimental ambient and chill out sessions to an audience of 6 or 7. Then, by another happy coincidence and via highly dubious means, he was encouraged into music production via sampling and sequencing. The tapes of those deranged early efforts are all but lost. However, the loop-based principals on which they were founded persist in the cut and paste methods Huess employs to create his musical backdrop.
Drawing on pretty catholic tastes, influences (some real, some imagined) on Huess’ music include: Neil Young, Madlib, Sonic Youth, Terry Callier, Fela Kuti, My Bloody Valentine, Boards of Canada, Tony Allen, Carl Craig, Bembeya Jazz National, Jay Dee, Faust, Prefuse 73, The Black Keys and Sir Edward Elgar. One of the first signings to the Inaudible Answer label in late 2008, the journey will begin with Huess’ first EP due to be released in early 2009. Expect future podcasts, remixes, collaborations with Inaudible Answer’s in-house DJ Kempston Joystick and the ultimate objective of a Huess album by Autumn 2009. We hope you join him.
