The Mercury Shortlist

mercury

So the Mercury 2009 shortlist is out there and causing controversy as always. My first impression is that it certainly feels more mainstream than previous years and there is a distinct lack of any albums I have really connected with. Having said that I do really like the Horrors album and enjoyed Speech Debelle when I saw her perform at Bardens earlier in the year. I am not sold on her album as a whole but there are some great tunes on there that have been knocking about for a while now.

The usual message board mania has kicked off in the wake of the announcement but rather than divert you to all that why not listen to the Guardian’s Rosie Swash have her say.

As is very much my way I have created a spotify playlist of the nominees. I couldn’t find the nominated led bib album or any sign of some other artists but this is the best I can do. Have a listen and let us know who you think should walk off the 1000% increase in album sales this year.

And so as not to be biased here is the myspace page of the only nominee of whom there is no trace on spotify
