Some naysayers are claiming that Wavves have lost their appeal with this outing, but I wonder if they are listenening to the same record as me. Wavves have always been pure ephemera, you love their best instantly, rarely do you make return visits. Longevity was never what it was about. But you could say that about most popular music. When was the last time you played your Nirvana records.

The BIG problem with their latest flame is the production. Gone are the treated vocals, the freaky overdriven guitars, the things that made it sound like Goldstar on Mars. Its laid bare on all but a few tracks and Wavves dont suit this approach. Without this they are a mere splash and a rumble and there gone. ‘King of the beach’ until the summer ends, at a push.
